CONSIDERATE DESIGN

We believe the process of design requires discernment and regard…for the client and their circumstances, for the expertise of the construction team, for the quality of service provided, and for the site upon which the project will take its shape. With this honest and aggregated awareness, the project is informed, and a concept can be fluidly polished and improved. With TJA, consideration is all encompassing from a personal to a professional level.

COLLABORATION

We value the expertise of others. Each member of the teams we create, which includes the client and professionals, comes to the project with knowledge and experience that enrich the final product.

CONTEXT

Every project is unique. Knowing the specific conditions of the site, the intention for project design and scope, and the particular needs of the client ensures that the outcome matches the landscape and performs with simple beauty and efficiency.

RESTRAINT

Design remains our cornerstone. The development of a concept and program will transform as visions, realities, and unknowns inevitably intersect. The process of editing and simplifying pays consistent respect to the specific circumstances of the project and results in details that are more rich, materials that are better curated, and forms that are more striking. These intentional moves value an open interplay between the building form and the environment.

PROCESS

We believe design should be simple but significant. Investing in architectural services inevitably increases value. We strive to deliver on both of these assumptions.

Our process begins with the story of the client. Initial discussions will rely upon this story to refine the project scope, budget, program needs, and site-specific requirements. To begin the design process, TJA hosts a collective team charrette to explore ideas and opportunities for the project. We prepare concept plans and drawings to instigate the conversation. Precedent images and other materials are important to establish a direction for the design. TJA hopes to function as a translator, using the story of each client to visualize how they will interact with interior and exterior spaces and the environment.

The identification of a highly skilled construction team will be part of our early effort. The importance of this team working together from the inception of the project cannot be underestimated.

Drawings will be developed and further edited in order to represent the design intent. We focus on scale, relationship of project components, selection of materials, and how major building elements will inform the project. Our goal in this phase is to direct a strong design concept that will begin to take shape three-dimensionally.

"The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak."

The experience you can expect with TJA will be enhanced through the use of powerful three-dimensional modeling. This will include detailed video walk-throughs of spaces, both interior and exterior, and rich renderings that will illustrate precisely what can be expected out of the final product. This type of design workflow informs the client and construction team throughout the duration of the project, allowing more clarity in decision-making.

We stand by our drawings through the duration of the construction process, and our continued involvement in construction administration ensures that the design is carried through from concept to reality. What is visualized during the conceptual phase is what can be expected out of the end product.
